Cabinet Maker – Apprentice

PURPOSE OF ROLE

The Apprentice Cabinet Maker supports the crafting and assembling of cabinets to meet design plans and project deadlines under the guidance of experienced cabinet makers. The apprentice learns the necessary skills to produce high-quality, precisely constructed cabinetry and gain hands-on experience in the trade, with the goal of developing into a competent cabinet maker.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist experienced cabinet makers with planning and executing jobs as requested.
  • Learn to operate cutting and joining tools and machines safely and efficiently.
  • Support assembly of cabinet components, ensuring all pieces fit the specified dimensions.
  • Follow detailed drawings to assist with selecting appropriate materials and components.
  • Develop skills in cutting and joining materials as required to make parts according to plans.
  • Assist in making cabinetry and furniture pieces according to specifications, including hinges, locks, and handles.
  • Participate in quality control checks and ensure adherence to established standards and specifications.
  • Assist with site measures and installation of cabinetry as per plans as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area and assist with other reasonable duties as assigned by management.
  • Work towards becoming a competent cabinet maker by gaining experience in all aspects of the trade, including design interpretation, material selection, construction techniques, and finishing processes.
  • Collaborate with experienced cabinet makers and management to receive ongoing mentorship and guidance, building skills and knowledge over time.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Enthusiasm for learning and a strong interest in the cabinet making trade.
  • Basic knowledge of woodworking tools and techniques is beneficial.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Dedication to maintaining a safe and organised work environment.
